Save the Date for the 2024 Virtual Academic Conference
Mark your calendars for Park University's fifth annual Virtual Academic Conference! Held on Friday, January 19th, 2024 from 11am to 1pm CST via Zoom, together we'll explore ways to intentionally foster a sense of belonging for every student in our classrooms--no matter our discipline or modality--and at Park.
Our keynote speaker this year will be Dr. Lisa Nunn, author of College Belonging: How First-Year and First-Generation Students Navigate Campus Life (2021). In her keynote, "College Belonging for Students and all of us!" she'll have us consider:
"What are colleges getting wrong about fostering a sense of belonging for students? Belonging is more than making friends and joining orgs. Understanding how belonging happens in the classroom (academic belonging) and how it happens in the campus culture (campus-community belonging) allows us to recognize the important role we play in offering belonging to our students rather than expecting them to go and find it for themselves. Join us to learn more about how the dynamics of belonging work and everyday strategies we can employ to build a stronger academic community for our students and ourselves."
To learn more about Dr. Nunn's work, you can watch the brief video below or read this Inside Higher Education article, in which she discusses her book. All Park instructors and faculty can also download College Belonging for free as an ebook through Park Library!
